Postal Present

I did a fruit bowl for my postal present. The design is very simple - it's just a flat tray bent with the help of a strip. The material used has to be bendable, strong and be able to retain its shape.

It is made up of 1 flat A4-size and a strip of cardboard. My initial idea for the material was metal, but then it would be dangerous because it will be very sharp. Then after talking with Peter, he recommended aircraft ply, but I asked the shop and it's very expensive (around $130 for 1200 x 1200). So another material recommended to try using was laminex, which was also too expensive. Therefore, I tried using polypropelene, but it wasn't strong enough. So I had to use cardboard.

The cutting diagram for the tray and the strip that holds it in place:

I think the design of this friutbowl is great with a suitable material. The 'flat tray bent with the help of a strip' idea is also very nice which is very simple and easy for the reciever to transform into a 3D product. Maybe the colour of it could of been be colourful.

Using the cardboard to do a fruit bowl never could happened.however, this idea totally changed when i looked at your design of this fruit bowl.but i have a question about your design is there any reason why it is a square for your fruitbowl not any other shapes.

The design of the friutbowl is great and with an interesting shape. And the shape of your friutbowl is simple but not boring. It is novelty that using the cardborad as a suitable material.

beautiful design and beautifull made such a nice comment although imn not sure how long it would last as it is made out of cardboard and it is also quite time consuming to construct... good effort

This is a very elegant design. I is relatively simple, while remaining visually appealing. I particularly like the square shape, which should contrast with fruit shapes. However, I feel that the material and colour could be improved upon. Perhaps a thicker polypropylene sheet (2-3mm). As for the colour, someting brighter would have really complemented the elegant geometry of your design.

Well well!!! this is a very productive gift that I will really enjoy it to open it and put it together. However, I do think there could be perhaps different shape and layout to make it more durable??
